10 Waterfalls near Udaipur which are simple stunning 2022
When I suggest my friends that I saw an amazing waterfall in Rajasthan, they are like… huh… Its Rajasthan not Kerala. And thats because Rajasthan its quite famous among travellers as a desert destination. And they are wrong…
Waterfalls in Rajasthan, yes there are like 50 of them, and around 10 near Udaipur.
Well to break this concept, let me share the city of southern Rajasthan Udaipur, which is India’s number 1 honeymoon destination and is surrounded by small hills, which even forced Mughal emperor out of the boundaries of Maharana Pratap of Udaipur.
In the below post, I have shared 10 Authentic, real sites of waterfalls near Udaipur, which you can plan visit this weekend, or especially in monsoon.
1. Menal waterfall:
#1 water fall near Udaipur & also used by Prithviraj Chauhan to escape the heat of Rajasthan Ajmer & Delhi
Menal Waterfalls is the number 1 waterfalls near Udaipur, as before visiting this site, I would have not trusted anyone that such place even exist in Rajasthan. My first view about this place was that this is a waterfall in Jharkhand, which has some amazing sites, but seriously its near Udaipur.
The location of Menal waterfall is in Menal Village, around 150 km from Udaipur & the major city nearby is Kota, around 85 km. This is a natural waterfall, means that its not constructed by any dam site, as below in the list I have shared some waterfalls sites that came into existence due to a dam constructed nearby like Nandeshwar Ji Temple and Dam.
The height of Menal waterfall is 150 feet, which is huge, and it is on river Menal, which joins two flowing rivers, Banas and Badach. The waterfall area is very crowded (not like thousands of people, bit a few dozen) because of its size, and its stunning beauty which you must see in monsoons.
How to reach Menal Waterfall:
To come here, you have to cross a small gate through the temple, from where the waterfall is visible from the nearest. And here the boundary has also been made for safety, so do follow that. Now to get in the waterfall, there is a thin staircase here and then you can swim here, have fun in the water but keep your safety in mind.
There are other places to visit around the waterfall like Menal Temples and Bird Watching sites.
About Menal Temples:
At Menal there are many old temples and also some Buddhist Culture temples. The most famous one here is Mahabaleshwar Temple which is also known as Mini khajuraho of India.
There is also a statue of Nandi outside every Shiva Hindu temple, so it is believed that this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built in the 11th century by King Chschmana & his wife Queen Suhavdevi and it belonged to the shakambari Dynasty.
This temple was mostly used by Prithviraj Chauhan to escape the heat of Rajasthan.
There are other temples here which attract the tourists coming here like Menal Hanuman Temple, Dev Narayan Temple, The Joganiya Mata Temple etc.
Bird Watching in Menal:
There is also a forest near Menal waterfall, which is the perfect place to do safari. Tourists can also do jungle Safari and bird watching and you can enjoy the wildlife here. But there isn’t any government organized safari here, so best will be to get a local to assist you in any type of jungle trekking activity.
2. Thoor ki Pal:
#2 water fall near Udaipur
Thoor ki Pal or Thur ki pal, is what I will say a monsoon dependent waterfall, meaning that is amazing in monsoon months and lonely in winter. Its quite near to Udaipur, like its just 15 km north of Udaipur, and near Spectrum Resort Spa & Convention hotel. I visited this site when I had to attend a conference in the same mentioned hotel. And its just 1-2 km walk from the hotel.
To be very clear this is amazing amazing spot for tourist visiting Badi Lake, Nathdwara, as its a perfect on-route stop, and for locals its a popular place for students, families but not too good for people with shaky legs, as stones here can be a bit slippery.
If you are planning to come here then I will suggest you to wear good non slippery footwear and apart from Thoor ki pal, there are other places to roam: Fateh sagar pal, Choti Madar ki pal, Sajjangarh monsoon palace etc.
How to reach Thoor ki Pal waterfall?
Just hire a taxi, like contact Rajputana Cabs Udaipur @ 8209351141 (Mr CB Singh), I always contact them for taxi booking in Rajasthan.
3. Chulia Waterfall:
#3 water fall near Udaipur
So after exploring the above 2 waterfalls, I decided to visit anther site, name Chulia waterfalls, which is close to Menal Waterfall, around 75 km and nearest city from Chulia waterfalls is Kota, 55 km, and its 240 km from Udaipur.
Chulia waterfalls is what I will say, gets its power from Maharana Pratap Dam, which is just 10 minute walk from here. This area is like complete rocky slopes, where water flows down from rocks, and I must say that this is a unique site to see in Rajasthan.
In monsoon the water level is quite high, and the sheer voice of water falling the rocks is so amazing, but again this is not a easy place to jump & run around.
As its totally rocky area, some corners near shore can be slippery, but then again if you consider your self as a smart travellers, do visit it man. Have look at some images I have shared below.
Crocodile Point
There is also Crocodile Point near Chulia Waterfall which you can visit, & in the winters, these crocodiles come out to take in the sunshine and people are like very excited to see them.
Chulia waterfall is not only beautiful but it is also a bit risky because the stones become slippery here, due to which there is a fear of slipping. So don’t try to be too friendly with these crocodiles.
What season did you come here to visit:
The weather from July to January is perfect to come here, but people like to come here more during the monsoon because at this time the waterfall looks better and the trees become green.
